Summer Strike (2022) tracks Lee Yeo-reum (Kim Seol-hyun), a burnt-out office worker in Seoul, who, grieving the sudden death of her mother and reeling from a break-up, quits her job and relocates to a quiet seaside town, Angok, to check out of her stressful life. She rents a decaying, long-abandoned, billiard parlor (oblivious to its ominous past) and resolves that she will “do nothing,” while rediscovering herself.
In Angok, she meets An Dae-beom (Im Si-wan), a shy, stuttering librarian and former math genius, tormented by the unsolved murder of his sister from years earlier. Yeo-reum struggles to adapt to life in the countryside, forms new connections with local people including worrisome teen, Kim Bom, and experiences antagonism from villagers distrustful of outsiders. Treading the line of healing and mystery, healing occurs as Yeo-reum and Dae-beom begin to successfully face the haunting relationship with the billiard parlor and have to contend with a potential murder in the present that connects them to the dark past.
