First Love is a romantic drama that follows the cleverly bonded destinies of runaway couple Yae Noguchi and Harumichi Namiki from their first teenage first meeting in Hokkaido in the late 1990s, where their love story begins. Their youthful romance is fully realized and possesses a sense of hope for the future, with Yae hoping to become a flight attendant in Tokyo and Harumichi to join Japan Air Self-Defense Forces to impress her. A tragic accident occurs during an argument between Yae and her friend, and Yae develops amnesia from residual injury, blocking out her memory of Harumichi. Friends and family try to jog Yae's memory, to no avail. Thereafter, their lives steer in entirely opposite directions for years--Yae becomes a struggling single parent and taxi driver and Harumichi becomes a security guard and engaged to another woman. ...Finally, years later they meet with their separate new lives although their lives were so intertwined with Yae's impressive taxi driver ability, fragments of memories and coincidental meet-ups of their lives start to reveal lost connectedness between the two of them. Both dive into the impossible past, harbored desire for each other, interrogation of their past mistakes and regrets, and current relationship tension woes. Can first love reconnect the two adults through the drama of regret?

Each episode is inspired by two songs from Hikaru Utada titled First Love and Hatsukoi, and decidedly elicits a nostalgic feel and heartbreak and second chance theme intermixed through double timelines, and colliding in an emotional re-encounter journey.
